25th Anniversary Recap
The 25th anniversary of the Boston Pops on Nantucket concert in 2022 was unlike anything the island has seen before. The show opened with a flyover by vintage World War II military planes and the world-class orchestra was joined by Marc Martel rocking the legendary music of Queen.
In the first of its kind on Nantucket, a high-tech drone light show surprised the audience as the orchestra played the 1812 Overture. The show featured 150 illuminated, synchronized, and choreographed drones that arranged themselves into stunning aerial formations above Jetties Beach.
The drone show was the replacement for the traditional fireworks display that for the past 24 years had been the culmination of the concert. With restrictions put in place from local officials, Pops Chairs Bruce and Elisabeth Percelay came up with the idea of using drones as a visually stunning and environmentally friendly alternative.
The Boston Pops on Nantucket raised more than $2.4 million for NCH’s operations.
