Our Patients – The Murray Family

“Nantucket Cottage Hospital has been an important part of our family through four generations going back to my grandfather Philip Murray, the founder of Murray’s Toggery.

My father Philip C. Murray, who created the famous Nantucket Reds™ as part of the family business, grew up next door to the original Nantucket Cottage Hospital on West Chester Street. My brother and sister were born there after my father and mother, Elizabeth, moved back to the island when I was two.

Our hospital has seen us through all stages of our lives, from the cuts, scrapes and broken bones of our childhoods to the birth of my children in the new hospital. Our experiences have always been positive. There are many non-profits on Nantucket, but Nantucket Cottage Hospital remains the most important to me and my family. Giving ‘time and treasure’ to this great organization brings joy to us.”
