NCH Appoints Major Gifts Officers

Two major gifts officers have been appointed this week at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Maryellen Burke and Chris Glowacki will support the ongoing capital campaign for the new Nantucket Cottage Hospital building project, and continue to grow philanthropy at the hospital.

“Maryellen and Chris are joining the hospital at an exciting time for our capital campaign and will bring their considerable talents and experience to bear on this important project,” said Courtney O’Neill, the executive director of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Foundation. “They will also bring new energy and resources to our other philanthropy programs to help secure the future of the hospital for the island community.”

Maryellen Burke was the founding executive director of Discover Portsmouth in Portsmouth, NH, a non-profit organization and community resource that promotes the city’s cultural scene and history, and is operated by the Portsmouth Historical Society. Prior to her time at Discover Portsmouth, Burke served as a philanthropy advisor for the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, advising the region’s most generous donors on strategy, timing, and investing of charitable assets.

“It’s a privilege to join this Foundation team at such an important time,” Burke said. “I look forward to getting started on this great project.”

Chris Glowacki, who grew up on Nantucket and graduated from Nantucket High School , is returning to the island after serving as a business development executive with NBC and Discovery Communications, and most recently as the COO of Rainmaker Thinking, a management training and consulting company. Glowacki was the co-founder and CEO of Plum TV, the lifestyle television network that operated on Nantucket and other resort destination communities.

“Since my father was born there in 1930, the hospital has always been a critical part of my family’s life on the island,” Glowacki said. “There are instances where we literally would not have survived without it.  It is a great honor to join the outstanding team at the hospital.”

After receiving the overwhelming support of Nantucket Town Meeting voters in April for zoning changes and other real estate articles, Nantucket Cottage Hospital is proceeding with a robust planning process to design and build a new hospital on its current site at 57 Prospect Street. To date, the hospital has received commitments from donors totaling more than $58 million toward this historic initiative.

Over the past five years, philanthropy at NCH has grown by more than 72 percent, with its annual fund topping $1.2 million in each of the past two years, and the annual Boston Pops on Nantucket concert grossing over $3 million in 2014 to support ongoing operations at the hospital.
