In Memory of Former Trustee Charles Balas
Nantucket Cottage Hospital is mourning the loss of Charles Balas, a longtime member of our Board of Trustees, who passed away last weekend.
Mr. Balas served as Chairman of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2001. As Chair, Mr. Balas led the hospital through some of its most important initiatives, including the creation of the Boston Pops on Nantucket fundraising event and the Campaign for the 21st Century.
In light of his extraordinary record of service to the hospital, in 2012 Mr. Balas was appointed a Lifetime Honorary Trustee of Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Mr. Balas contributed to the island community in many other ways, serving on the Town of Nantucket’s Personnel Board, the Visitor Services Advisory Committee, and as President of the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce. Charles and his wife Ann owned and operated the Anchor Inn on Nantucket for many years. Together they have been stalwart supporters of the hospital.
We are grateful for everything Mr. Balas did on behalf of NCH over the years, and he will be dearly missed by those in the hospital community and beyond. We send our condolences to his loving wife Ann, as well as his family and loved ones.
