Nantucket Cottage Hospital handles over 11,000 emergencies a year. With that kind of volume, our Emergency Department teams have seen just about everything. So we are prepared for anything. From setting a broken bone to the initial treatment and triage of heart attack and stroke patients, we’re here 24 hours a day for the residents and visitors of Nantucket.

Every decision we make is based on our commitment to deliver unexpectedly high quality care. That’s why we augment our medical staff during the busy summer months through our partnership with an emergency physician group. Also, if it is in the best interests of a patient to be sent to a specialized acute care or Level 1 trauma center, we will arrange critical care transport via Boston MedFlight or other agencies to a mainland hospital immediately.

Our Emergency services:

There is no such thing as a typical day in our Emergency Department, but we often treat the following:

  • Trauma from accidents of all kinds
  • Severe respiratory attacks
  • Cardiac events
  • Strokes & seizures
  • Pediatric medical emergencies
  • Bone injuries
  • Extreme burns and lacerations

We provide emergency treatment at Nantucket Cottage Hospital regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. And you can count on our teams to keep your private information private. From the moment you or your loved one is triaged, the level of skill, professionalism and compassion is nothing short of amazing.
