2015 Boston Pops on Nantucket Special Guest
Nantucket will be throwing it back to the 1970s on Jetties Beach this summer when Nantucket Cottage Hospital and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra welcome The Australian Bee Gees Show as their special guest for the 19th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket concert.
The Australian Bee Gees Show is a multimedia theatrical concert experience that takes a nostalgic trip through the legacy the Bee Gees left behind while celebrating over four decades of the infectious music written by the Gibb brothers. Together for more than 19 years, The Australian Bee Gees Show has mastered the look, sound and personality of the adored trio, while cementing their reputation as the world’s leading Bee Gees show.
On Saturday, August 8, The Australian Bee Gees Show will join conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra for a night of music, dancing and fireworks at one of the island’s most beloved beaches. (more…)
$25K Challenge Grant Will Support Grant Wentworth’s Cape Cod to Nantucket Solo Swim Benefitting Island Cancer Care
Nantucket Cottage Hospital today announced that an anonymous donor has stepped forward with a $25,000 challenge grant toward Grant Wentworth’s solo swim from Cape Cod to Nantucket to benefit the hospital’s cancer care program.
The challenge grant means that every dollar contributed to Wentworth’s swim up to $25,000 will be matched by this anonymous donor, with a goal of pushing his fundraising total over $150,000 before he embarks from Cape Cod in late July.
Through the Swim Across America charitable organization, Grant has already raised over $105,000 to benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s oncology program, which provides on-island care for Nantucket cancer patients and brings oncologists from the Mass General Cancer Center to the island.
Lodge Bequest Benefits NCH & other Island Non-Profits
Katherine Lodge was the longtime owner and steward of the Hadwen-Wright House at 94 Main Street, one of the iconic mansions known as the “Two Greeks” that are a symbol of Nantucket’s past whaling glory.
A strong advocate for the preservation of historic buildings and architecture, Mrs. Lodge loved Nantucket, and was a passionate caretaker of the piece of island history she called home.
Sadly, Mrs. Lodge passed away on May 20, 2014, but she left behind a surprise that will benefit Nantucketers for many years to come.
In her last will and testament, Mrs. Lodge gave the residue of her estate to three island institutions: Nantucket Cottage Hospital, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, and St. Mary, Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church. (more…)
Michael Lorber Will Chair the 2015 Boston Pops on Nantucket!
Nantucket Cottage Hospital is pleased to announce that Michael Lorber will chair the 2015 Boston Pops on Nantucket concert set for August 8th at Jetties Beach.
Lorber has long ties to the island, and is a founding member of the Friends of Nantucket Cottage Hospital group.
“As a summer resident of the island, I am honored to serve as this year’s chair for the biggest and best event of the summer,” Lorber said.
As the event chair for the 19th edition of the Boston Pops on Nantucket concert, Lorber will oversee this cherished island tradition with a dedicated group of hospital staff and volunteers, producer Jon Rosbrook and Aisling Glynn’s ACKtivities, as well as vendors and special guests.
The annual concert is the largest single fundraiser for Nantucket Cottage Hospital that brings thousands of people from all walks of life together at Jetties Beach for an unforgettable night of entertainment featuring the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart. All funds generated during the event stay right here on the island to sustain the hospital’s year-round commitment to the health and wellbeing of the island community. (more…)
