In Memoriam – Mrs. Constance C. Larsen
Nantucket Cottage Hospital was lucky to count Mrs. Constance C. Larsen among its many friends and supporters.
Known to all simply as “Bonnee,” she spent her summers on the island, and used her considerable energy and talent to benefit NCH, volunteering again and again for the hospital right up until her passing on March 27, 2015. (more…)
In Memoriam – William “Bill” Hays III
Nantucket Cottage Hospital lost one of its champions earlier this year with the passing of William “Bill” Hays III.
Bill served on the NCH Board of Trustees for more than 20 years, was a founding member of the NCH Advisory Council and the Patient & Family Advisory Council. He was also as a strong advocate for the new hospital, serving as a neighborhood captain on the community outreach team until his death on February 25, 2015 at the age of 84. (more…)
Swim Across America Nantucket Raises Over $225K For On-Island Cancer Care
Swim Across America Nantucket’s event in August raised nearly a quarter million dollars for cancer care on Nantucket. On Thursday, December 4, the Nantucket swim Co-Event Directors Jim Pignato and Jill Roethke presented the checks to NCH President & CEO Dr. Margot Hartmann, and Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket (PASCON) program director Charlene Thurston.
Swim Across America Nantucket, now preparing for its fourth year on the island, is a fun and active family event at Jetties Beach that benefits the Mass General Hematology/Oncology Service at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, as well as PASCON‘s programs and services.
Phil Stambaugh Pays It Forward
Phil Stambaugh had been waiting 40 years for the shot.
In September 2014, it finally happened – a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at the Sankaty Head Golf Club. And the shot just happened to come during The Swing for Nantucket Cottage Hospital, winning Stambaugh a brand new 2015 Jeep Wrangler courtesy of the hole sponsor, Don Allen Ford.
“It was more disbelief than anything else. I’ve come close in the past but to have it go in at the hospital tournament and have everyone around was special. Everyone on the course in the near vicinity knew what happened (because of the cheering),” Stambaugh told The Inquirer and Mirror.
Driving away with the new Jeep, Stambaugh decided to take his good luck and pay it forward. Stambaugh generously donated his Acura MDX to Nantucket Cottage Hospital for use by visiting staff and physicians.
“We are so thankful to Phil Stambaugh for this gift, which will be extremely helpful to our visiting doctors and clinicians,” said Courtney O’Neill, the executive director of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Foundatoin. “What a wonderful gift.”
