December 16, 2020 – They’re here! The first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine arrived on Nantucket this morning. Tomorrow we will begin vaccinating frontline NCH staff members most closely involved in COVID-19 patient care and testing. Today is a monumental day in our fight against the pandemic. The vaccine is the most important intervention that will help us bring COVID-19 under control and get us back to normal.

Recognizing that providing compassionate care is a key hospital goal, Nantucket Cottage Hospital established an  annual prize honoring a staff member for extraordinarily compassionate care.

The Seinfeld/Hartmann Prize for Compassionate Medical Care will pay lasting tribute to a physician, nurse or any other hospital staff member who throughout his or her professional career demonstrates an outstanding level of compassion and care in their role at NCH.

The Seinfeld/Hartmann Prize for Compassionate Medical Care, a cash award, will be given each year at the NCH Annual Meeting in August, and the winner will be announced to the hospital and the island community at-large.

We screen to protect you, your families, and our staff

• We screen all employees daily for symptoms. Anyone with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or other infectious illness is not permitted to work until they are evaluated.
• We screen visitors and encourage the use of our pre-screen tool to our facilities for symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
• We test and screen patients for COVID-19.
  • Admitted patients to our hospitals are tested for COVID-19 before admission. Patients are tested again over of the course of their admission.
  • Admitted patients are screened daily for symptoms.
  • Patients visiting our facilities are screened for symptoms.
  • When providing care in the home, we screen patients for symptoms before the visit.

We clean our hands and spaces and make it easy for you to do the same

• We have hand sanitizer stations throughout our facilities so patients, visitors, and staff can clean their hands easily and frequently.
• We follow CDC recommendations for cleaning of our facilities.

We protect everyone in our environment

• We require everyone — employees, patients, and visitors — at our facilities to wear a facility-issued facemask.
• We wear masks when providing care in the home.
• All Mass General Brigham employees are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 and influenza.

(May 11, 2020) Today was supposed to be Opening Day 2020 at the Hospital Thrift Shop, but there is no line on India Street today! It’s a sad day and we are missing the opening day tradition and seeing all of you. A special shoutout to all our loyal volunteers, shoppers, and donors. Although Opening Day 2020 had to be postponed, stay tuned for updates. After 90 years in business, the Hospital Thrift Shop will adapt and will continue to serve the Nantucket community moving forward.
