The 2015 Beinecke Fund Scholarships

Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s annual Beinecke Scholarships were awarded Tuesday to help island residents advance their education and training in the medical fields.

Open to graduates of Nantucket High School and employees of Nantucket Cottage Hospital, this special fund was created by the late Nantucket businessman and civic leader Walter Beinecke, Jr. in the 1950s.

Nantucket Cottage Hospital president and CEO Dr. Margot Hartmann announced the 45 recipients of this year’s Beinecke Scholarships and awarded $35,300 during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon in the Founders Building at NCH. (more…)

Nantucket now has its own version of the classic board game Monopoly that features dozens of iconic island businesses and organizations.

Nantucketopoly is now available at retail outlets around the island this summer, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to support Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s capital campaign. (more…)

Letter to the Island Community from the NCH Medical Staff

To the Nantucket Community,

The members of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital medical staff were pleased with the community response and turnout for the Nantucket Opioid Symposium on May 9th. We were represented on the panel by Dr. Tim Lepore, and appreciate that the island community is confronting this important issue.

As physicians, we are all concerned about the potential impact prescription opioids can have on our patients, while at the same time we recognize the benefits of these drugs in managing pain when used responsibly. (more…)

Lodge Bequest Benefits NCH & other Island Non-Profits

Lodge, KatherineKatherine Lodge was the longtime owner and steward of the Hadwen-Wright House at 94 Main Street, one of the iconic mansions known as the “Two Greeks” that are a symbol of Nantucket’s past whaling glory.

A strong advocate for the preservation of historic buildings and architecture, Mrs. Lodge loved Nantucket, and was a passionate caretaker of the piece of island history she called home.

Sadly, Mrs. Lodge passed away on May 20, 2014, but she left behind a surprise that will benefit Nantucketers for many years to come.

In her last will and testament, Mrs. Lodge gave the residue of her estate to three island institutions: Nantucket Cottage Hospital, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, and St. Mary, Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church. (more…)
