NCH Social Services Offers Assistance With Medicare Part D Enrollment
The annual enrollment and change period for Medicare’s Part D Prescription drug plans begins Oct. 15th and runs through December 7th.
To get Medicare prescription drug coverage, you must be enrolled in, or join a plan run by an insurance company or other private company approved by Medicare. Each plan can vary in cost and drugs covered. Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s Social Services Department provides one-on-one consultations for those Medicare recipients who wish to enroll or review their current prescription plan. Due to the fact that plans can change yearly, NCH Social Services Manager Peter MacKay advises island residents to look over their plans on an annual basis to ensure it is the best option to meet their needs. NCH Earns Accreditation From The Joint Commission
Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) announced today that it has been accredited by The Joint Commission, the non-profit organization that accredits and certifies health care organizations in the United States, by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards.
NCH earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation, a symbol of quality that reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.
The Joint Commission conducted a rigorous unannounced on-site survey of Nantucket Cottage Hospital in late May 2017, when a team of expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards for emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, and other areas. Surveyors also conducted on-site observations and interviews with NCH staff members.
“To be accredited by The Joint Commission is a significant accomplishment and demonstrates a commitment to excellence across all our departments,” said NCH President and CEO Dr. Margot Hartmann. “I want to commend our staff for all the work and preparation that went into earning this certification. The island community can be proud of its medical professionals who made this happen, and can have confidence in coming to NCH for their care.” (more…)
NCH Staffer Joins Hurricane Harvey Relief Effort
Nantucket Cottage Hospital emergency department staff member Anne Stearns has deployed with the American Red Cross in Texas as part of the relief effort in the communities devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
After flying to the Houston area, Stearns was initially assigned to help open a new shelter in Beaumont, Texas, and has since moved on to help at a shelter in Port Arthur, one of the hardest hit cities.
“We have over 245 people in the shelter. This week I will be going out in the neighborhoods to check on people who need medical care,” said Stearns, who serves as a paramedic patient care tech in the NCH emergency department.
“Once I heard about Hurricane Harvey I knew I wanted to come down here and help,” she added. “We have so much where we live that I wanted to come help people who had everything taken away. We are staying in a shelter on cots with cold showers but it’s only for nine days – most of these people have no idea how long they will be in shelters. It’s the least I could do. I want to thank NCH for allowing me the time to come here.”
