DONATING GOODS FROM THE OLD NCH – BOTH NEAR AND FAR
During the big move into the new Nantucket Cottage Hospital on Feb. 20th, hundreds of pieces of medical equipment, furniture and other items were transferred from the old facility into the new building to be reused for patient care and comfort.
But what was left behind is not simply destined for the landfill.
In the days and weeks since the old hospital was closed, the remaining equipment, furniture, shelving, doors – nearly everything that can be removed from the building – has been inventoried and is finding new homes.

HOW TO ACCESS THE NEW HOSPITAL: The main entrance of the new hospital will be unusable until the old building is taken down and removed. During this interim period, patients can access the new hospital two ways:
- From the physician practices entrance near Vesper Lane
- From the Emergency Department entrance off Prospect Street
Patients should use the physician practices entrance near Vesper Lane for doctors appointments. Nantucket Cottage Hospital will provide complimentary valet parking service at the entrance to the Emergency Department. We anticipate the main entrance will be open by late June.

Hospital Open House Featured in The Cape Cod Times
NANTUCKET — Nantucket is on the verge a new era of health care, and in movie parlance, its new hospital is ready for a close-up.
An estimated 500 people got a sneak peek at the gleaming new Nantucket Cottage Hospital on Saturday during two open house events — one for employees and their families and one for the general public — in advance of an official opening next month. The $89 million, 106,000-square-foot facility is adjacent to the existing and soon-to-be demolished hospital that was built in 1957 when the island had roughly one-third of its current year-round population.
“I think of it as time travel from 1957 to the 21st century,” said Dr. Margot Hartmann, president and CEO of Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
