Dr. David Lieberman Joins NCH Staff as New Full-Time, Year-Round Primary Care Physician

(May 1, 2025) David Lieberman, MD, has joined the Internal Medicine Primary Care team at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, as a year-round physician specializing in adult primary care.

Dr. Lieberman was previously living and practicing in Tucson, Arizona, where he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics, General Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Lieberman and his wife were looking to return to the New England area to be closer to family, and the position at NCH with Mass General Brigham presented itself.

“It is shaping up to be exactly what we wanted, with a beautiful natural family-friendly environment, diverse patient population, and room for creativity around primary care,” said Dr. Lieberman.

Dr. Lieberman’s path to becoming a medical doctor was not a traditional one. He was a Political Science major at Yale University, where he also started sharing his love of cooking on a public-access television show called “Campus Cuisine.” The show featured sophisticated, yet accessible cooking designed to inspire college students. The New York Times featured the show on the cover of the In Dining section, and that was the beginning of a successful run as a television cooking show host on Food Network and New York Times bestselling author.

“Good Deal with Dave Lieberman” premiered on Food Network in the United States and Canada in April 2005 focusing on affordable gourmet-quality recipes. In 2006, he launched a web-exclusive series with Food Network called “Eat This with Dave Lieberman,” where he visited various cities, uncovering trends and crazes in cuisine.

While he was making his mark on television, he was also writing cookbooks. Dr. Lieberman’s first book, “Young & Hungry,” was published in 2005. He followed that up in 2006 with a second, titled “Dave’s Dinners: A Fresh Approach to Home-Cooked Meals.”

In 2009, Dr. Lieberman worked with a New York Times health reporter to publish, “The 10 Things You Need to Eat,” which made The New York Times bestseller list that year. The book revolves around ingredients that have scientific evidence supporting their health benefits, and it was this project that started him down his journey to becoming a physician.

Eight years after graduating from Yale, Dr. Lieberman went back to school to complete his medical school prerequisites at Columbia University, before attending medical school at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lieberman is currently accepting new patients. To make an appointment, call 508-825-1000 or use the Patient Gateway mobile app or patientgateway.massgeneralbrigham.org.

Dr. Sarah Russell Joins NCH Staff as New Full-Time, Year-Round Primary Care Physician

March 1, 2025Sarah Russell, MD, has joined the Internal Medicine Primary Care team at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, specializing in adult primary care. Dr. Russell is NCH’s newest full-time, year-round physician.

Dr. Russell is no stranger to Nantucket. She grew up on Cape Cod and visited Nantucket periodically during her childhood. She still has family on the Cape, making her transition to Nantucket feel like a homecoming.

“I find it appealing to practice small town medicine, with access to the resources that come with the relationship with a larger hospital network,” she said about coming to NCH.

Prior to arriving on Nantucket, Dr. Russell was employed at the Fortrea Clinical Research Unit in Madison, WI, a Contract Research Organization that conducts phase I clinical trials in drug development for both small and large biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies. Additionally, Dr. Russell spent five years at SSM Dean Health Medical Group, a multispecialty physician group in Madison, WI, where she practiced Internal Medicine Primary Care. Her career also includes a tenure in Brattleboro, Vermont, in an Internal Medicine Primary Care practice.

Dr. Russell said she’s looking forward to learning more about her patients. “I think that the history, listening to a patient’s story, is the most important part of the visit with a patient,” said Dr. Russell.

Dr. Russell’s academic credentials include a medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, now known as the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a residency in General Internal Medicine at Brown/Rhode Island Hospital. She is board certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

In her leisure time, Dr. Russell enjoys biking to work, even during the winter months.

Dr. Russell is currently accepting new patients. To make an appointment, call 508-825-1000 or use the Patient Gateway mobile app or patientgateway.massgeneralbrigham.org.
