Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s 104th Annual Meeting
Nantucket Cottage Hospital held its 104th Annual Meeting this morning and welcomed new members to its Board of Trustees and Advisory Council, thanked outgoing members for their service, and honored its volunteers and leaders.
Trustee Kevin Hickey was elected as the Board’s new chairman, taking the reins from outgoing chairman Michael A. F. Roberts, and Trustee Jack Burke was elected vice chairman. In addition two new members, Cathy Ward and Robert L. Reynolds, were elected to the Board.
In recognition of their longtime service to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Stephen Anderson and Margaretta Andrews were elected as Honorary Trustees, joining Charles Balas in that role on the Board. (more…)
Giving the Gift of Time to Parents of Stillborn Babies
Out of Julie Immelt and Benjamin Whelden’s grief came an extraordinary gift.
Since the Martha’s Vineyard couple lost their son Mark, who was delivered stillborn at 38 weeks last February, they have been raising funds to help future parents of stillborn children in the Cape & Islands region.
On Saturday, they donated a Cuddle Cot to Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s Birthplace. A Cuddle Cot is a device that regulates the body temperature of a stillborn baby to allow parents as much time as possible with their child. (more…)
Grant Wentworth Completes Cape Cod to Nantucket Swim
He did it! Grant Wentworth completed a solo swim from Cape Cod to Nantucket in 12 hours, 54 seconds. In the process, Grant raised over $150,000 for Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s cancer care program through the Swim Across America charitable organization.
After setting out from Cape Cod at 4:25 a.m., Grant arrived on Nantucket just over 12 hours later, coming ashore at Great Point to a crowd of family, friends, and well-wishers. (more…)
David Gregory Returns as Host for the 2015 Boston Pops on Nantucket
Longtime journalist and Nantucket summer resident David Gregory will return as the host of the annual Boston Pops on Nantucket concert on August 8th.
This will be the second year in a row Gregory has hosted the event, which attracts more than 7,000 people to Jetties Beach for an evening of music, dancing, and fireworks to benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Gregory was the moderator for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” America’s longest-running television program, from 2008 to 2014, covering national politics and current events from Washington D.C. He has served as an NBC News correspondent based in Chicago and Los Angeles, and covered the OJ Simpson trials and the trial of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.
At this year’s event, Gregory will welcome to the Jetties Beach stage conductor Keith Lockhart and Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, as well as this year’s special musical guest, The Australian Bee Gees Show.

New Pediatric Patient & Family Advisory Council at NCH
Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is having a baby!
The hospital is creating a new Pediatric Patient & Family Advisory Council that will focus on maternal and pediatric health issues and facilitate patient and family member participation in hospital care and decision-making in these areas. (more…)
