If you’re coming to Nantucket for the summer or even visiting for a few days or weeks and want to receive care at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, please see the information below which will help you access the services you need.
To receive any services at NCH, all patients must be registered and can do so ahead of time by calling 866-211-6588.
Dialysis
The transferring facility must call the NCH dialysis unit at 508-825-8224, as there is specific information we need to send to Dr. James Reimer, NCH Dialysis Medical Director, to write orders for the treatment plan.
Imaging (radiology)
Off-island providers should fax any radiology order to 508-825-8390. Prior insurance authorization (if required by the patient’s insurance carrier) need to be obtained prior to the exam being performed. Nantucket Cottage Hospital can perform any of the following radiology exams with a physician order:
- Mammography
- Ultrasound
- X-Ray Examinations
- CT – Computerized Axial Tomography
- MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- DEXA – Bone Density
- Cardiac Echo (On Saturdays by Appointment Only)
- Fluoroscopy (Barium Swallow, Upper GI)
The NCH radiology coordinator will enter the order into our system and call patients to schedule their exam. Patients are always welcome to call 508-825-8382 between 8am and 4pm with any questions.
Infusion & Chemotherapy
NCH Infusion Services offers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood product transfusions, hydration, antibiotics, and other infusions and injections, as well as therapeutic phlebotomy treatments, and central line flushes, labs, and dressings. All services require an initial visit and orders from an NCH credentialed provider. Call Infusion Services staff at 508-825-8190 for provider options and more information.
Laboratory
Off-island providers should fax an order to 508-825-8247. Alternatively, they can give the patient a paper order to hand carry to the lab. The NCH Laboratory is a full service laboratory and is accredited by CAP. A wide range of procedures are available in the following areas: Bacteriology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Serology, Transfusion Services and Urinalysis. Patients can view results through the Patient Gateway. The NCH Laboratory can be reached by phone at 508-825-8184.
