Hearth Health & Cardiovascular Medicine

Your island home for heart health

Overview

Overview

Even 30 miles at sea, your heart is in good hands. Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s cardiovascular health services include diagnostic, treatment, and ongoing care options that can save you the time and expense of leaving the island. More importantly, they could save your life. Through a partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital, our cardiology clinic brings some of the finest specialists in the region to Nantucket. Dr. Joseph Garasic, the medical director of MGH’s cardiac access unit, sees island patients at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on a monthly basis. In addition, Dr. Francis Weld, an island-based cardiologist, offers patient consults three times per month on Nantucket. Our diagnostic imaging services, including heart and vascular ultrasounds, MRIs and CT scans, are often part of a cardiovascular evaluation and are read remotely by some of the finest radiologists and echocardiographers in the world at MGH. We also offer cardiac rehabilitation, a supervised exercise and education program for patients who have suffered a recent cardiac event.

Our cardiology program services include:

  • Cardiac stress test
  • Diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT)
  • Heart ultrasound
  • Vascular ultrasound

Please contact the NCH specialty clinic coordinator at (508) 825-8377 to make an appointment to see Dr. Weld. For appointments with Dr. Garasic, please call (617) 726-0712. You may also see the current schedule on the NCH Clinician Calendar.

SPOTLIGHT

Dr. Joseph Garasic

Dr. Garasic, a cardiologist at Mass General and consulting staff member at NCH, described the cardiology services available on Nantucket during an interview with N Magazine

“Despite its small size, Nantucket Cottage Hospital has done an exemplary job of caring for the heart and vascular needs of an island population that fluctuates widely in number depending on the season.”
