Construction Progress Our New Hospital

We’re seizing a once in a generation opportunity to build the right hospital for Nantucket. Our new hospital will be modern, efficient, and flexible enough to adapt to the rapidly changing nature of health care delivery and meet the challenges that come with being the ultimate safety net for a community 30 miles at sea.

Services in Focus Cancer Care

Developed in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital our program brings a team of cancer specialists to the island on a weekly basis for patient consultation and treatment. Ugne Aleknaite, a Nantucket-based Certified Nurse Practitioner, coordinates with Mass General, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and on- and off-island providers to care for Nantucket cancer patients and their families.

services in focus Welcome Dr. John D'Avella

John F. D’Avella, MD, FASN, has joined the hospital’s medical staff as an internal medicine physician. Dr. D’Avella will initially join Dr. Diane Pearl’s practice on a part-time basis, while also providing nephrology consults in the hospital’s medical/surgical unit and in the emergency department, and accepting referrals for patients with kidney issues, difficult to manage hypertension, diabetes, and kidney stones.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED Jeannie Critchley's Story

In April 2015, Jeannie Critchley was coming to the end of another school year and looking ahead to summer on Nantucket. But Critchley, who has been a teacher at Nantucket Elementary School for nearly 30 years, was about to receive some health news that would change her life. After a routine mammogram at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Critchley was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

Ways to get involved Hospital Thrift Shop Donates $381,500

Continuing its 88-year tradition of generosity, the Thrift Shop announced a $381,500 gift to Nantucket Cottage Hospital following another successful season on India Street. “It never ceases to amaze me what the Thrift Shop is able to do year after year,” said Dr. Margot Hartmann, President and CEO of NCH.

SAVE THE DATE: March 11, 2018 at the Great Harbor Yacht Club from 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. The health fair includes free health screenings, health insurance information, workshops, speakers and community resource information. Games, crafts, activities and healthy snacks will also be available at this free event.
